The Checklist

1. Vacuum and sweep all floors, carpets, and furniture.

2. Dust all surfaces such as window sills, baseboards, furniture and ceiling fans.

3. Wash windows inside and out.

6. Organize closets and drawers by removing items that are no longer needed and placing them in donation or trash bags.

7. Clean out refrigerator and freezer; discard expired items and wipe down shelves with warm soapy water.

8. Disinfect kitchen and bathroom surfaces such as countertops, sinks, tubs, toilets, and doorknobs.

9. Wipe down appliances such as the microwave, oven, stovetop and dishwasher with an all-purpose cleaner or degreaser to remove grease build-up and food residue.

10. Wash bed linens and towels in hot water using a detergent that is suitable for your laundry system; replace any worn items if necessary.

11. Inspect the exterior of the home for any damage caused by weather or pests; repair or replace any affected areas if necessary.

12. Trim trees and hedges as needed; remove overgrown branches and weeds from landscaping beds.

13. Clean outdoor furniture, grills, and other outdoor items with a brush and mild detergent solution.

14. Sweep the porch and walkways to remove dirt and debris; pressure-wash if necessary for stubborn stains or algae growth.

15. Check gutters and downspouts for clogs or rust damage; clean out leaves, twigs, or other debris that may have built up inside the gutters throughout the winter months.
