furnace filter

Your furnace filter is an important part of your home heating system. Not only does it protect your furnace from dust and dirt, but it also helps to keep the air in your home clean and healthy. Most experts recommend changing your furnace filter every three months. But there may be times when you need to change it more often or less often. In this blog post, we will discuss the importance of furnace filters and how often you should change them.

What does a furnace filter do?

Furnace filters are essential for ensuring the long-term health of your furnace and the air quality in your home. They help protect your furnace from dust, dirt, and other particulates that can cause damage to its internal components. This helps keep the system running more efficiently and prevents costly repairs down the road.

In addition, they also trap pollutants like pollen, pet dander, smoke particles, mold spores, and bacteria — keeping them out of your home’s air. As a result, you’ll enjoy cleaner air throughout your living space while reducing the presence of triggers for seasonal allergies or asthma.

How often should you change your furnace filter?

It depends on a few factors including how many people and pets live in your home, the size of your filter, and the type of environment you live in. As a general rule, most experts recommend changing your furnace filter every three months.

However, if you have a lot of people or pets living in your home and/or if you live in an area with high levels of pollen or other allergens. Then it’s best to change your filter more frequently — every two months is recommended. On the other hand, if you don’t have as many people or pets living in your house and/or you live in an area with low air pollution levels, then it may be fine to just change the filter once every four months.

Filter size/change schedule:

  • 1-2 Inch filter, replace every 1-3 months
  • 3-4 Inch filter, replace every 4-6 months
  • 5-6 Inch filter, replace every 7-12 months

This may vary depending on your living conditions.
