How often?
How often should I clean my range hood filter is a question we get a lot at the home inspection. The simple answer is: once every three months.
But why?
Your range hood filter is important for two reasons. First, it helps to remove any odors that may be lingering in your kitchen. Second, it helps to keep your range hood clean.
A lot of people don’t realize how important it is to clean their range hood filter. They think that as long as they keep the stovetop clean, they’re good to go. But the reality is that your range hood filter needs to be cleaned just as often as your stovetop.
But we know that not everyone is as Type-A as us, so we’ll give you a little more wiggle room. You can probably get away with cleaning your filter every four to six months. But no more than that!
How bad could it be?
If you don’t clean your filter, it will become clogged with grease and other gunk. This will make your range hood less effective at venting smoke and odors from your kitchen. It can also be a fire hazard, so it’s important to keep up with the cleaning schedule.
If you don’t clean it regularly, the grease and grime can build up and make it very difficult to clean. No one wants to spend an entire afternoon cleaning one thing.
Cleaning your range hood filter is easy. Just remove the filter and wash it in hot, soapy water. You can also put it in the dishwasher. Once it’s clean, dry it off and put it back in place.
And that’s all there is to it! Now you can rest easy knowing that your range hood filter is clean and working properly.
