Parging 101
Parging is the coating applied to the visible (above-grade) portion of your home’s foundation walls. It is a thin, cement-like mixture that is applied to the outside of concrete walls to improve their appearance. Parging can also help to protect your foundation from water damage and other types of weathering.
It is applied to both poured-concrete and concrete block foundations to help hide surface imperfections, marks from formwork, etc. Parging also helps to seal small cracks that may develop over time and helps to prevent water seepage.
If you’re thinking about adding parging to your home, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, be sure to use a mix that is specifically designed for parging. Second, make sure the surface of your foundation is clean and free of debris before you start. And finally, take your time when applying the parging.
Its a decorative Coating
It’s decorative, not structural. Cracks in parging are common. They don’t affect the strength of your foundation, but they can be unsightly.
Repairs to parging can be a bit tricky as you will need to match the colour, style, and general appearance of the existing parging. It’s usually easier to apply a whole new coat to the home instead of doing spot repairs.
Add Character to your home
Parging is a great way to add character and charm to your home’s exterior. This unusual decoration can be applied relatively easily if you have some basic knowledge and skills with a trowel. Parging can help to improve the appearance of concrete walls by hiding surface imperfections and small cracks that may have developed over time.
If you’re looking for an unusual way to spruce up your home, parging might be the answer. This unique decoration can add character and charm to any home. Plus, it’s relatively easy to do yourself if you’re handy with a trowel. So why not give it a try?
